Update on The Bible Experience

After my readers showed interest in the Bible Experience I researched it a bit to figure out how it came about. The Bible Experience: New Testament was released in October 2006. Then the Complete Bible was released in October 2007. The Bible Experience was produced by the media group Inspired By. This media group consists of Ron Belk, Kyle Bowser, Lou Buster Brown, and Robi Reed and Chip Hurd as the director. As I watched the dvd that came with the purchase, I got the impression that this was the idea of Kyle Browser. He mentioned purchasing several audio bibles in the past but never thoroughly impressed with them. Hence, the idea of including almost 400 actors, musicians, clergy, directors, and producers to make this product. I encourage you to check out this link to see the different trailers. Please watch the Full Bible “Making of” Video to give you an idea of how moving this really is. Blair Underwood was a beast and I can’t way to get to that point in my listening. Heck, seeing him performing it brought tears to my eyes in this clip. Also, check out this link to hear audio clips.  I recommend Crossing the Red Sea. That was a very interesting listen. I recommend The Easter Story too even though I haven’t heard it yet. As of now, this is the fastest selling audiobible to date. It was also awarded the 2007 Audiobook of Year for the New Testament edition, and AudioFile Earphones Award, and a nomination for an NAACP Image Award.

I couldn’t find any info on how long this process took. However, during the interviews on the “Making Of” DVD it seemed as if this was pretty much done when schedules allowed it. I would like to note that Denzel Washington was the first person asked to do this project. However, in the old testament the role of God was played by Pastor Paul Adefarasin. And he was phenomenal. During his interview he showed his stack of his assigned readings which was huge by the way. He stated that if they had showed him beforehand how much he was gonna have to read in 10 days he said he probably thought it wouldn’t have been possible. And he went on to say that that’s just how God works.  Also the narrator is Matt Gibson. His voice sounds a lot like James Earl Jones but I have no clue who this man is.

The complete Bible features 79 digitally mastered audio CDs, a bonus “making” of” DVD, and a carrying case. The length in its entirety is 89 hours. They offer several different ways to purchase it.  I would also like to add that I thoroughly enjoyed the “making of” DVD. It was great seeing the different artists interviewed and their thoughts on this whole process. It was very moving to watch and see their spiritual side as opposed to them as an entertainer.

I’ve been listening to this for a few weeks now and so far I’ve completed 9 cd’s which translates to over 100 pages and three books of the bible. Initially, I was doing a cd twice before I moved to the next one because I wanted to make sure I was comprehending the information and I would put the cd on right before my nap. But I’ve changed that and I actually read along as I’m sitting up to make sure I complete the cd the first time through.

On Moday I got home late due to the gym and I read my daily devotion but I opted not to listen to a cd for the night. It was a huge difference because I just felt like something was lacking from my night. Needless to say I’m getting a cd in every night from here on out because I didn’t like feeling like I was missing something.

FYI: My aunt mentioned that it’s 50% percent off during the month of February. I finally figured out she knows these things. She get the christian store sales ad… LOL So play around on the website and take a listen to what’s available. If you’re interested go ahead and make that purchase.  It’s definitely a rewarding experience. I know I am learning a lot and this is one of my greatest purchases ever. Pretty soon I’m gonna be able to say I read the entire bible thanks to the Bible Experience.
